The first year of the awards ceremony Czech Grand Design took place on 24th February 2007 at the famous Dvorak Hall in Prague’s Rudolfinum.

First Czech designers were awarded by independent professionals, members of the Design Academy of the Czech Republic. There were eight award categories: Designer of the Year in the categories of Product Design, Fashion Design and Graphic Design; Fashion Photographer of the Year; Discovery of the Year; Seller of the Year; Producer of the Year; Hall of Fame.

Few days after the Czech Grand Design Award ceremony took place, an exhibition of awarded works was opened at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague and will be available until 4th March 2007.

On 16-th of February was an opening day of the light exhibition in Kraków, organised by Galeria F.A.I.T., which as one of aims, has promoting design and young designers and further cooperation with producents. At the exibition are shown projects of lamps designed by students from different Academies from Poland. Light objects characterize a great variety from folding “twigs”, interaction hanging lamps to video. Product design is having more attention in Kraków…
The exhibition is open untill 20-th of March.

On 7th February have been published the results of “the radical radiators of the future” competition which was run by designboom.

Why I’m writing about this competition? Because it was international competition just like every time on designboom and there was quite a lot of participants from eastern European countries. Some of them are very interesting, some less. So please go and have a look in there. Here´s the pick of interesting entries made by designers from eastern Europe: Mike Žák from Slovak Republic, Michal Pazitny from Slovak Republic, Krzysztof Urbanski + Marcin Trzop from Poland, Maxim Velcovsky from Czech Republic, Gorazd Koscak from Slovenia, Ilya Titov from Russia and definitely you´ll find much more.

On 6th February at 4 p.m. the Hungarian Design Council is opening an exhibition in the Museum of Applied Arts Budapest, a presentation of works/results from Moholy-Nagy (design) and Kozma-scholarship (crafts) holders. And the other on the 11th February Sunday the next one-day WAMP (Sunday Design Market) is taking place in Millenáris with participation of approx.70 designers & craftsmen, putting their works on sale.
