University of Belgrade at Talent Zone Copenhagen Exhibition

June 25th, 2007 by press

Wood Processing & Furniture Design Students, from Faculty of Forestry, University of Belgrade, Serbia, took participation at Copenhagen International Furniture Fair held from 10th to 13th May this year. Opportunity included exhibiting in Talent Zone, place reserved for young design talents and World’s best design schools.

During the event students have demonstrated new furniture prototypes, following multi functional, folding, rotating and wrapping principles. They’ve also shown some good examples of sustainable design, on which they’ve worked studiously for two months before the fair, under supervision of mentor MA Jelena Matic and Project Leader Professor PhD Dusan Skakic. For the first time international public was introduced to BOOMERANG, multi functional rotating chair made from one type of elements, by author Nikola Petkovic; lightweight chairs from tiny spruce and maple wood elements LAGANCA and TRIPOD by Aleksandar Blagojevic (part of Wood Waste Utilization Project at the Faculty), and folding chair with one armrest/backrest TWEENY by Emir Beciragic, unique by its unusual purpose – for thinking

Great attention was equally given to a bench with thousand shapes – HARMONICA by Serbian MENSA member Aleksandar Stamenovic, TRIGAMI folding stool which could be packed in as Japanese origami, by Miss Kristina Radosavljevic, and a lady’s MAG BAG by Miss Jelena Zecevic, which could be easily transformed into a stool catching the eye and the heart of, equally, men and women. Finally there were more solutions worth pointing out, like Uros Vitas’s MIeSSROLLO chair and its wrapping principle, and Nemanja Aleksic’s PAPER BENCH magazine holder, which is also a successful modern sculpture with three different positions.

During the show students were frequently encouraged by regular visits and business proposals which could be realized in the nearest future.

In the meantime these talented young people and their mentors are exchanging impressions about this beautiful northern country and can’t hardly wait for the moment when they would finally be able to return to what they love the most and what they do best – design science.

More detailed info about each project can be find in enclosed PDF: Works description and Department info.pdf

Latvian glass design

June 19th, 2007 by Zampik

We would like to show you Latvian glass design trademark “an&angel“.
This trademark was established in 2006 by 3 Latvian glass artists Andzela Auzere, Artis Nimanis and Agnese Gara-Nimane, now they offer hand blown glass tableware.

The most peculiar thing about their product is that they use titan oxides, so their bowls and dishes gain silvery and multicoloured tones as well as intricate ornament. Very laconic shapes of the tableware allow to use it for many purposes, even for not traditional ones.

Pecha Kucha Night Prague – 20. 6. 2007

June 14th, 2007 by Zampik

pecha kuchaWhat is Pecha Kucha Night?

Pecha Kucha Night, devised by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham (Klein Dytham architecture), was conceived in 2003 as a place for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. (Admittedly, it was also a way to get more people to visit SuperDeluxe – their then newly opened multimedia event space in Tokyo).

But as we all know, give a mike to a designer (especially an architect) and you’ll be trapped for hours. The key to Pecha Kucha Night is its patented system for avoiding this fate. Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each – giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to show.

Pecha Kucha (which is Japanese for the sound of conversation) has tapped into a demand for a forum in which creative work can be easily and informally shown, without having to rent a gallery or chat up a magazine editor. This is a demand that seems to be global – as Pecha Kucha Night, without any pushing, has spread virally to over 80 cities across the world. Find a location and join the conversation.

Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design achieved smashing success in SaloneSatellite Milan

June 11th, 2007 by press

The „treasure chest” by MOME (Budapest-based Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design) exhibited in Milan at SaloneSatellite, which is one of the most important design exhibitions of the world organized by iSaloni for young designers, made a landslide success.

MOME

A result of the participation of almost 80 people, this interactive installation did not only earn the approval of visitors, but also important appreciation for the university winning opportunities for the present and in the long run. Being constructed of 64 parts during the exhibition, this enormous piece of furniture may be interpreted as a kind of unique work of art, and it has found four potential buyers right then: from Kuwait, India, Japan and Italy. The German television was shooting a film at MOME’s exhibition booth, and the professional international press – ranging from the Italian Ottagono to the German Elle Decoration – has also shown profound interest in the project. The university received invitations from Chicago through Paris and Munnich to Hamburg to exhibit. Two students have been chosen for actual commissions thanks to their participation in Milan. As a result of the debit in Milan European and Asian institutes of higher education are pleased to initiate exchange projects and joint events.
