University of Belgrade at Talent Zone Copenhagen Exhibition
Wood Processing & Furniture Design Students, from Faculty of Forestry, University of Belgrade, Serbia, took participation at Copenhagen International Furniture Fair held from 10th to 13th May this year. Opportunity included exhibiting in Talent Zone, place reserved for young design talents and World’s best design schools.
During the event students have demonstrated new furniture prototypes, following multi functional, folding, rotating and wrapping principles. They’ve also shown some good examples of sustainable design, on which they’ve worked studiously for two months before the fair, under supervision of mentor MA Jelena Matic and Project Leader Professor PhD Dusan Skakic. For the first time international public was introduced to BOOMERANG, multi functional rotating chair made from one type of elements, by author Nikola Petkovic; lightweight chairs from tiny spruce and maple wood elements LAGANCA and TRIPOD by Aleksandar Blagojevic (part of Wood Waste Utilization Project at the Faculty), and folding chair with one armrest/backrest TWEENY by Emir Beciragic, unique by its unusual purpose – for thinking
Great attention was equally given to a bench with thousand shapes – HARMONICA by Serbian MENSA member Aleksandar Stamenovic, TRIGAMI folding stool which could be packed in as Japanese origami, by Miss Kristina Radosavljevic, and a lady’s MAG BAG by Miss Jelena Zecevic, which could be easily transformed into a stool catching the eye and the heart of, equally, men and women. Finally there were more solutions worth pointing out, like Uros Vitas’s MIeSSROLLO chair and its wrapping principle, and Nemanja Aleksic’s PAPER BENCH magazine holder, which is also a successful modern sculpture with three different positions.
During the show students were frequently encouraged by regular visits and business proposals which could be realized in the nearest future.
In the meantime these talented young people and their mentors are exchanging impressions about this beautiful northern country and can’t hardly wait for the moment when they would finally be able to return to what they love the most and what they do best – design science.
