August 29th, 2007 by press

INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF INDUSTRIAL DESIGN DESIGN ACT

Industrial design sets our objective environment. Everything from ashtray to tank, or matches, or street lamp – is made by industrial designers. Today only people in the field and those interested are aware of Russian industrial design existence. DA is the very first attempt to show and discuss industrial design not only with the narrow professional circle but for the very broad audience. DA people are actual and to-be designers, producers, distributors and everybody interested in the world if unusual things.

That’s what stands for the multiplicity of Festival’s format: here we have Design Market, the trade fair of designers’ stuff; then, Design Forum debating society with lectures, discussions, exchange of experience, and master-classes by renown guest designers; also, Design Exhibition – the best of the best of domestic industrial design; and, finally, informal communication of Design Party. Exhibition of Russian industrial design will reveal near potential of our designers. Trade fair is the door to the world of non-dull objects where one can find something to his or her liking. At interesting open lectures and discussion people will see leaders of industrial design in person – of find out that they exist.

Invitation to take part in the First Festival of industrial design was readily accepted by famous European designers: from Belgium, Vlaemsch (Casimir), Xavier Lust, Hiroshi Tsunoda DesignCode from Spain, form Netherlands, WAT Design, British Black+Blum and Mixko, and ORA ITO from France. Russia is represented by Ostengruppe, Open!Design, Limitedunlimited.ru, Respublika.ru, Artemy Lebedev’s Studio, Sock to Talk, to name but a few.

One f Festival’s tasks is to give young designers a chance to declare themselves. We believe our guests will appreciate works by one of the most promising designers, Mikhail Sholk from St. Pete. He creates objects of interior, and will present his personal exhibition. At the Festival you can buy any exhibit you like. .

It’s the first chance we have to enter the world of diverse world of industrial design. Everybody’s welcome: newcomers, and mastodons, and sympathizers. Come to find something to your taste, or find out what you are for. That’s what DESIGN ACT is all about.

Istanbul Design Week 2007

August 27th, 2007 by press

İstanbul Design Week is more than just a showcase for designers, it is a creativity platform presenting reference points for designers to draw their path. İstanbul Design Week is a connection point for creative ideas from different disciplines of design.

What differentiates İstanbul Design Week from similar design events is firstly it’s venue, the Old Galata Bridge. The century old bridge is one of Istanbul’s most important landmarks and used as the main exhibition area of İstanbul Design Week. Promising an extraordinary experience, the Old Galata Bridge has a total exhibit area of 10,000 squaremeters, a perfectly central location and a very unique atmosphere.

“From the little we know about Istanbul it is a place of enormous creative energy with a developing design scene that is not so established and not yet set in its ways, for us the wider cultural environment is the most interesting thing, the diversity of culture is like nowhere else in the world, we are always inspired by music, we want to meet as many people as possible and have as many conversations as we can in the hope that we will end up doing something with people in Istanbul that is relevant, innovative and appropriate and useful. Istanbul is the most exciting city in the world that we have been to so far, is it Europe, is it Asia? Makes us dizzy just thinking about it. Are we in a mosque or what?”

Istanbul Design Week 2007
aims to bring production companies, designers, opinion leaders, young talents, professionals and design fans together at the Old Galata Bridge between September 04th and 10th. This year Istanbul Design Week has a much wider concept with its extensive international connections. The event becomes a perfect platform for designers and producers to reach consumers and make new international connections. In this platform once again non-governmental organizations, universities, occupational organizations, small and medium sized companies, industrial sector representatives will share their ideas with the design world. We expect from all participants to evaluate Old Galata Bridge in the most creative way where Istanbul Design Week is organized. Because in Istanbul Design Week, the space does not limit your creativity, only your creativity limits the space!

2+3D magazine – latest issue

August 21st, 2007 by press

The first part of the magazine is devoted to applied graphics (2D).
They present selected posters, graphic symbols, typefaces, typography, packaging, company visual identity strategies, as well as certain elements of advertising. Every issue features the portfolio of a selected designer: either a recognized professional, a promising debutante, or someone who is raising a controversy. We make note of competitions, reviews and exhibitions, mainly in Poland, but also in the world at large, with a particular focus on Central Europe. We also make room for theoretical articles and those on the phenomena which have formed the history of design, and which might serve as inspiration for contemporary designers.

The second part is reserved for 3D products from both industrial design and limited series projects (and sometimes even one-offs). We concentrate on not only everyday-use objects, but also on more seldom addressed design problems, such as those of public space, production and workplace conditions, and assistance for the elderly and disabled. As in the first part, we present portfolios, theoretical work, competition results, and design history (with particular focus on our own past).

What is inside?

How the near east was won young designers from Israel

Ludwik Gardowski – In Search of a national style in typography

A behind-the-scene Look at shoes – Interview with Andrzej Bikowski, sport shoe designer

National triennial of design – Cooper-Hewitt – New York

No one will find out – film posters

Baťa shoes

and much more….

Design Week Budapest 2007

August 16th, 2007 by press

Design Week 2007 – Design: not by chance

For the fourth consecutive year Design Terminal Kht. organises the annual Design Week in Budapest between October 8th and 14th with the patronage of the Hungarian Design Council. Following on the traditions of the previous years, the program of the week is centered around a focal theme – the possibilities and chances offered by design. The series of events – also reaching to the frontiers of design – illuminate the fact that the intellectual content of the objects offers such an added value, expressible even in figures, that can significantly increase the chances and possibilities of a given product or business for market success.

In addition to the eleven Hungarian exhibitions organised during the week, a wide range of international design exhibitions will open in Budapest: the environment-friendly Danish Trike, a spectacular selection of the French Observeur du Design, two exhibitions of the Prague Design Blok, the Finnish Hothouse, the Polish Knock-out Design, the German fashion designer Bianca Koczan, and the Estonian Tarmo Luisk.

The presentation of the materials and the winners of the 2007 Hungarian Design Awards in the Museum of Applied Arts is the most prestigious event of the Design Week.

The festival of graphic designers and typographers called I. Graphifest is being organised for the first time this year, in the framework of which the results of the Golden Drawing Pin Award (Aranyrajzszög Díj) and the Helvetica in Hungary will be presented. In addition to this the material of four international competitions will be shown in the framework of exhibitions, award ceremonies and lectures.

The two day workshop organised in cooperation with the Hungarian Design Council will muster up prestigious international lecturers and some of the most decisive actors of Hungarian design. The workshop focusing on the management of intellectual property aims at supporting the work of active designers and newcomers.

A program called the Pilot Route (Próbajárat) showcasing the work of 80 newly graduated Hungarian designers in 60 shops is also being organised to offer a chance of introduction to the wider public.

The Design Week Info Points scattered around some of the busiest plazas of the city equipped with maps and alternative street furniture will help visitors know their way around the more than 70 events while offering the possibility to lounge and get acquainted with environmental design.
