Air Crosswalk Design Concept by Art Lebedev Studio

December 2nd, 2008 by Zampik

Perfect solution to increase pedestrian safety. New concept for crosswalks from Art Lebedev Studio.

This is very smart solution as during the night this crosswalks becomes dangerous places especially out of the city. Idea is to have double marking with illuminated stripes put above the road. So when pedestrians crossing the road is more visible for drivers. Also such a crosswalk mark will be seen for far away and indicate to driver that he should slow down.

First Air Crosswalks will appear in 2009 in Tumen, Russia, where this project got approved by the local road police department.

Congratulate to Art Lebedev for another bite.

    Hi,

I was working quite a lot on Urban Lighting Desing and this solution definitely seems innovative and new enough. The whole approach started with light of white colour (instead of orange one thats ubiquitois in cities of today).

My only reservation is that it looks quite drastic. I think it could work with less luminaires.

    Cheers,
    Mitja

Hi, I definitely like the pure idea and the vision, but my reservations are more than one – it is looking either expensive or energy consuming, what are we doing with existing wires (trams and trolley bus), and of course the street gangs…
