DMY in cooperation with Goethe Institute Prague presented six German design studios had showcased their contemporary positions in product design at DESIGNBLOK’09.
The Berlin based designer Stephanie Jasny is inspired by objects of the ambit of construction. Her lamp Cordula is an intermixture of a spotlight and a cable reel. By combining and extending the functionality and utilization of both objects, Stephanie Jasny makes the hybrid lamp suitable for our living rooms without rejecting its origin. Her table Limes is mathematically based on a curve steadily approaching zero. Its tabletop is decreasing to the edge in its thickness, creating a curved surface in the center in which the legs can be inserted without the need of being screwed.

The young label Kieser+Spath, founded only a year ago in Darmstadt, has already attracted the interest of the audience in Cologne with such pieces as the side table Ross Well, where the tabletop is intentionally replaced by a tensed textile promoting a lightweight construction with high stability. The soft tablecloth can be easily exchanged giving the table different appearances. Also the cantilever chair Mahoney is showing changing facets to the viewer. Made of a circulating ribbon the refined chair in which seat and backrest swing independently is generating a dynamic seating experience.
