The third DesignSUPERMARKET, a sales exhibition of contemporary design, will take place from December 10 to 13, 2009. The event will present over 40 progressive fashion brands and design works in the attractive setting of the functionalist palace of the former Perla shopping center (now an office building) in Perlova street in Prague 1. This year’s design show, which last year attracted over 3 000 visitors, will in addition to the sales exposition offer creative fashion workshops, a book store, coffee shop and night music club BU2R.

“Design SUPERMARKET, an independent platform for designers and artists, yet again found an appropriate venue this year. Last year’s exposition was held in the intimate space of an old renaissance building in Prague’s Old Town before moving to the unique building of the former Perla shopping center,” said Daniel Posta on behalf of the organizers. The functionalist palace, built in 1932 and designed by architects Milan Babuška and František Řehák, is one of the most interesting modern architecture buildings in Prague offering 1 500 m2 of exposition space for several dozens of participants focusing on product, glass, porcelain and jewelry design or original fashion.

“The Lordship company greatly values its historical and architecturally interesting buildings. Our goal is to revive these attractive buildings. Because part of the functionalist building of the former Perla shopping center is currently waiting for new tenants, we have decided to use this unique opportunity to support quality Czech design by offering this exceptional space in the center of Prague for the exposition. The cooperation with the designSUPERMARKET 09 organizers has been a great experience for us,” said vice-chairman of the Lordship company ing. Martin Pilka.

Visitors will have a rare chance to see the most interesting works produced by young progressive designers in the Czech Republic and use this opportunity to buy great and original Christmas presents. Works of exceptional jewelry designers Markéta Richterova, Zdenek Vacek, Klára Šípkova, Věra Novákova or designers from Whitefruits, Supro and Kotec studios and many others can also make wonderful presents for loved ones. Fashion designers including Sistersconspiracy, Leeda, NO. or Chatty will present their original collections. “We are happy this year’s event is organized under the auspices of respected VSUP professors including architect and designer Jiří Pelcl, fashion designer Liběna Rochová and art jeweler Eva Eisler,” added Daniel Pošta.

DesignSUPERMARKET will also include the now traditional Market Liba where visitors can find additional tips for great Christmas presents from designers not participating in this year’s exposition, but whose products fit the event’s fresh style.

This year’s designSUPERMARKET will newly include a bookshop offering books published by KoprBooks, Baobab, Zlatý řez, Tichý syndikát, Prostor, Voleman, VŠUP publishing, Meandr, Taschen, Vice and others and an exposition organized in cooperation with the OKOLO group presenting contemporary Czech design in a new context. There will also be special daily workshops for visitors, a coffee shop with nice Christmas atmosphere permeated by the smell of ginger, mulled vine and home-made treats made by the designers especially for this occasion, and concerts in the evenings.
