Autoprogettazione 2.0: on display

Due to the fantastic response of the global open-source design challenge – Autoprogettazione 2.0, launched by Domus with FabLab Torino, the committee comprising of various personalities as curators and designers, has selected the seven very best projects which where exhibited during the Salone del Mobile in Milan. Two of these studies where made by designers from Eastern Europe. Wedge side table, by Andreas Kowalewski, made from plywood with its basic structure is very easy to pack, transport, assemble and use. Michael Tomalik, inspired by classic tool box, has created the work lamp which includes storage for tools. The whole object is constructed from 8mm plywood, simple fluorescent tube and its name is Lightbox.

‘Make me!’ Contest Call – Poland

‘make me!’ contest is one of the most important competitions not only in the Central and Eastern European region but also on international scale. The winner will receive 4 600 €, as well as awards in the form of study tours and internships. Moreover its prestigious, multinational jury that includes festival directors, curators, critics and magazine editors can help young designers to improve their skills and see their products critically. ‘make me!’ is open to every designer between 20 and 30 who are working in the fields of product and fashion design. Awarded works will be presented at the post-contest exhibition, held during the Lodz Design Festival. It is definitely a unique opportunity to designers to show their ideas publicly, establish contacts with companies and enter both the Polish and international design market.

International Biennial of Interior Design in Krakow

The other event, named 2^nd International biennial of interior design, will be held from 8^th to 10^th March, 2012 at Bunkier Sztuki Gallery in Krakow. From the very early age, human kind wanted to create a place where it is pleasure to live. Beginning in Byzanc, simultaneously continuing to modern ages, men is trying to think up a new and better solution for living space, nowadays called interior design. The participants of the 2^nd International Biennial of Interior Design will seek answers to this question for the second time. The central theme of this year’s biennial is ‘City-Gardens of the Future’. The biennial is a periodic event held by Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, under the auspices of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Mayor of Krakow and the Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow.

‘Design by…’ competition – Poland

Regional authorities of Wielkopolska launched an international design competition called „design by…” for a product inspired by local identity. The contest is aimed to help the young generation to find its identity. All students and graduates of design from Belarus,Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russian Federation, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine are welcomed to join the event. The competition will promote those European regions, which both preserve the regional identity and remain open to the changing world outside.

Mikser Festival – International Design Competition in Belgrade

The cultural organisation Mikser, which is a multidisciplinary, multicultural platform that aims to affirm the cultural industry of the region and takes its active role in creating better business, social and political context for talented individuals and progressive businesses in the Balkans, is organising traditional Mikser festival for young designers in Belgrade.

The Competition’s slogan for 2012: “GET REAL!”, helps students to find the best way in creating products for current tumultuous times. Projects will be evaluated from diverse sights, as ergonomics, environmetality and also production costs. It is open both for Balkan designers – Young Balkan Designers, as for people from other countries – Ghost Project, aged 35 years and younger from 15th February until 31st March 2012.

The Best Designed Car Award

Automotive Design Conference Auto(r) and websites CarDesign.ru & CarDesignCommunity announce establishment of “The Best Designed Car” award with mission to celebrate the good automotive design. The difference from existing awards is that winners will be chosen by expert jury made of 50 respectable automotive designers and journalists (list of jury members so far). Prize giving ceremony will be at the Conference Auto(r), in Zagreb (Croatia).

BIO 23 Call for Entries is Open!

The Museum of Architecture and Design is proud to announce the international Call for Entries for the 23rd Biennial of Design – the international exhibition and BIO Design Awards competition. The curators of this year’s exciting 23rd edition of BIO are Margo Konings and Margriet Vollenberg of Organisation in Design.

Adopting the theme Design Relations, the BIO 23 exhibition will highlight fresh ideas and explore how design relates to the social, the sustainable, and the cultural, while displaying crossovers between culture and commerce, crafts and industry. Curators will select the works to be exhibited from the entries received. The BIO 23 exhibition will be held from 27 September to 11 November 2012 at the Museum of Architecture and Design in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

The Biennial of Design is one of the few major international design exhibitions with a tradition of more than 48 years that presents a carefully chosen selection of contemporary trends in international design. From the first biennial in 1964 to today, BIO has presented 22 exhibitions that survey the best in international design.

Established and emerging young designers, commissioners, manufacturers, tutors, students, design labels, creative collectives, cultural institutions and others are invited to apply for BIO 23 exhibition; the deadline for entries is 30 March 2012.

BIO Design Awards & Jury

A jury comprising design experts Giulio Cappellini, Sven Jonke, Sophie Lovell, Jimmy MacDonald and Vasa J. Perović will present awards to the best of the exhibited design works. The BIO Gold Medal, BIO Green Award, BIO Honourable mentions, and the Award for a Student Work will be presented at the opening ceremony of the Biennial on 27 September. The winner of the BIO Gold Medal will receive a monetary prize in the amount of €5,000.
