The final selection for International Design Review 2010-2011 – has been done! The Cieszyn Castle held a meeting of the international jury. The best 40 graduation projects from universities around the central Europe has been selected, for publication in 2+3D magazine, and for accompanying exhibition in Cieszyn.

Second edition of the Core77 Design Awards is now open for entries! This year’s awards program features 17 categories including progressive areas (such as DIY and Educational Initiatives) and two brand new categories (Food Design and Writing & Commentary).

The official deadline for entries is April 10, 2012, entrants who register by March 13 will receive a 20% earlybird discount!

Czech Design is winning at the Heimtextil fair again. Magdaléna Vojteková is the winner of student contest „Young Contract Creations Award 2012: Upholstery“. This year 5th edition of the contest had a motto „relaxation“ students has to design design multi-functional upholstery furniture intented for relaxation in residential but also public spaces.

Among the 60 entries from 13 Universities around the Europe the expert jury has choosen as the best, work of Magdaléna Vojteková „Relax and Swing“. Last year winner was Václav Mlynář also from the Czech Republic.

Chandelier designed by Kateřina Smolíková is inspired by deep sea luminescent organisms. It is intended to be for darker places as an orientational light. It should remind the lightnes of this organisms levitating in the dark space. Light source used in the light is LED which is most energy efficient light source nowadays. Designer has received the Outstanding Student Design Award for the project.

Design of switches “Lumen” by Magdaléna Čurdová and Tereza Matyáškováby is a reaction to a missing product for specified target group of consumers. It features three separate segments: mount, switch cover, switch which allow for wide scale customization (colors, material and price varieties). Designed for specified technological system of the ABB company. Designers has received the Outstanding Student Design Award for this project.

Design contest organised by Chris Bangle Associates is seeking for vehicles and machines for the future. Future described in “PETER TEUFUL: a Tale of Car Design in 3 Parts” by Chris Bangle set in 25year ahead. More info here.

Jewelry for the future was the main theme of the project of Kateřina Reichová. Inspirational sources of design were author’s favorite sources like sci-fi, cyberpunk and futurism. Material for jewelry is silver for its good properties in shaping and exclusive look. Kateřina has received Good Student Design Award.

Czech National Award for Student Design 2011 has also winners in Excellent Student Design category, one of them is Greenhouse by Kristýna Pojerová. Greenhouse is an interior light and its main sense is access to fresh herbs in urban kitchen. Herbs are planted around the main inner shape which allow for easy access to them. Shape of the greenhouse allow aslo to circulation of the air and helps to make special micro climate.
