The final selection for International Design Review 2010-2011 – has been done! The Cieszyn Castle held a meeting of the international jury. The best 40 graduation projects from universities around the central Europe has been selected, for publication in 2+3D magazine, and for accompanying exhibition in Cieszyn.

Czech Design is winning at the Heimtextil fair again. Magdaléna Vojteková is the winner of student contest „Young Contract Creations Award 2012: Upholstery“. This year 5th edition of the contest had a motto „relaxation“ students has to design design multi-functional upholstery furniture intented for relaxation in residential but also public spaces.

Among the 60 entries from 13 Universities around the Europe the expert jury has choosen as the best, work of Magdaléna Vojteková „Relax and Swing“. Last year winner was Václav Mlynář also from the Czech Republic.

Design of switches “Lumen” by Magdaléna Čurdová and Tereza Matyáškováby is a reaction to a missing product for specified target group of consumers. It features three separate segments: mount, switch cover, switch which allow for wide scale customization (colors, material and price varieties). Designed for specified technological system of the ABB company. Designers has received the Outstanding Student Design Award for this project.

Jewelry for the future was the main theme of the project of Kateřina Reichová. Inspirational sources of design were author’s favorite sources like sci-fi, cyberpunk and futurism. Material for jewelry is silver for its good properties in shaping and exclusive look. Kateřina has received Good Student Design Award.

Design of the “Odorico Pordenone” caravan by Jakub Novák shows the possible new attitude to the interior design and the size solution. caravan feature innovative telescopic mechanism to expand it volume. Jakub has received Excellent Student Design Award for this project.

Still you have a chance to visit New G(o)ods 2010 tour endning this month in Sofia, Bulgaria. New goods 2010 is the exhibition of results of National Student Design Award in Czech Republic. Exhibition take place in Czech Center in Sofia.

The exhibition New G(o)ods 2011 results of Student Design Award in Czech Republic 2011 is open until the 2nd of February in Czech Center in Vienna.

Exhibition Buffet 1636 comes with a subtitle “reviving the Slovak ceramics tradition in the contemporary kitchen”. It presents three diploma projects of Zuzana Labudová, Sanja Porubić Takács and Denisa Tóthová, 2011 graduates of product design at Bratislava’s Faculty of Architecture.

„Buffet“ in the exhibition title refers to reflection on contemporary dining culture, which binds all three projects together. “1636” stands for the year of establishing Ceramics Guild in Slovakia – the projects were originally intended as new designs possibly produceable in Modra – one of the centers of traditional pottery production in Slovakia, literally bringing it’s products back on our tables.

The installation in the first room in K.Gallery draws the audience in the design process: crackle glaze, used moulds, colour tests. The second part of the exhibition simulates the interior of a kitchen.

Zuzana Labudova’s Milla is a ceramic kitchenware collection for baking cakes. The goal was to cover and simplify all stages of pastry preparation: the set includes jars for storing ingredients, baking forms and dough decorating stamps, willing to make home-baking more attractive.

The ceramic set Folk and Cream for serving desserts by Sanja Porubić Takács is directly inspired by Modra ceramics (using floral pattern). In cooperation with the craftsman Marián Liška, Sanja used the majolica technique for hand-turned pottery in combination with maple components.

Breakfast of Champions, a ceramic table service designed by Denisa Tóthová, explores the possibilities of using majolica to bring new utility value to the breakfast ritual. The final product tells the story of a morning workout. Inspired by authors traditionally tagging their ceramics, the set is decorated by medals with sportsmen illustrations.

The exhibition closes 5 January 2012.

Another VŠUP SHOP will take place from 14th until 18th of December at AAAD in Prague. Students and graduates will sell their original products ideas at this regular event. So do not wait, save the date.

International Design Review 2010 – 2011 project is aiming at graduation project of design academies from four countries of Visegrad Group. It aims to collect best graduation projects and show them to public, press and to potential business opportunities. For first time organized by 2+3D magazine in 2002 in form of presentation on several pages in the magazine. From that time the project is gaining more and more importance every year. Number of submited works in graphic and industrial design groves rapidly. In 2005 the Silesian Castle of Art and Enterprise in Cieszyn joined the Design Review project and undertake responsibility for organinising it. Last year it has made another milestone in its development. They have joined forces with Czech Typo magazine and Slovak Designum to give to next edition international staus. There were 30 projects from Czech republic, 180 from Poland, 14 from Slovakia. This year co-organizers from Hungary joined, what will make the project even more atractive and will diversify the final result.

The rules and premises of the review are: The qualifying commission will consider the submissions in two categories: applied graphics and industrial design. The verdict will not be a competition classification, positions will not be assigned either award given. The prize is the publication in 2+3D and Typo internationally acclaimed magazines and at the web page of the review, also exhibition in Cieszyn Castle will be opened.

Three independent juries decided about who gets the the National Prize for Student Design 2011, the Excellent Student Design 2011 and the Good Student Design 2011. It will be announced during the ceremony all together.
