Křehký Mikulov – art design festival – Czech Republic

Křehký gallery is organizing extraordinary exhibiton of art design. Connecting various galleries from European countries (Czech republic, Austria, Belgium, Germany and France), Křehký will exhibit a wide range of objects in castle Mikulov. As the result of cooperating about eight galleries, you can see the very last works of Qubus, studio Piršč, Vessel Gallery, or new gallery Art Design Project. The Křehký Mikulov festival is open from 1^st June to 3^rd June 2012 in Czech town Mikulov, well known for vineyards and fine quality wine.

Stool 01 – Matěj Chabera

Matěj Chabera, young Czech designer, has released a new product, Stool 01. As he is aimed mainly at furniture design, Stool 01 is not the exceptional case. Commissioned by LUGI furniture maker, Matěj Chabera was asked for some entertainment for kids during an opening ceremony. In approximately 15 minutes, he created very simple small stool, which is possible to be put together in less then 20 seconds. Using 4 pieces of wood and one connecting rod with a washer and a wing nut, Stool 01 can be produced in various colours and with different prints.

Lets go out to the garden – Slovenia

Spring is here and I like to do most things open air. With my laptop on my knees, a cup of coffee beside and a good book in case I ran out of battery, my day is just fine. But someday, when I will have a garden, I could invite friends over and say “lets go out to the garden!”

I’m sure Tina Rugelj, a young Slovene architect, had her garden in mind when designed this minimalistic collection of garden table with benches, garden sink, a doghouse and a modular wall made of cement-fibers. They would look perfect next to unorganized greenery, blossoming flowers and a vegetable garden.

The collection shows aesthetic qualities of fiber cement. It also serves to show another point of view to a concrete. It transforms a cold material into elegant shapes, thin objects into strong structures and gives a poetic dimension to a traditionally rough material.

If you are in Milan this year, you will find Tina’s concrete collection on her first solo exhibition on Salone Satelite from 17-22 April in Pavilion 22/24 on stand A21.

I AND YOU bench – Serbia

Cvetnoetno – Slovenia

“Cvetnoetno” furniture was designed by Slovene architect Špela Leskovic and fashion designer Almira Sadar in cooperation with furniture company Mizarstvo Černe.

Ethno furniture connects contemporary design with Slovene cultural heritage and traditional knowledge of working with wood and textile. The design of the furniture derives from the tradition of rustic furniture, the logic of joining its individual parts into a whole. Its usability, decorations and use of natural material. The textile part shows the rich tradition of Slovene flowers patterns, which are interpreted in technology of crochet. Shapes that through history have been a traditional part of designing furniture are interpreted in a contemporary manner with an intention for everyday use.

Stack easy chair – Croatia

Skrivo design ,founded by Croatian industrial designer Stefan Krivokapic in 2011, have recently release a new product Stack easy chair. Company specializes in industrial design across furniture and lighting sectors working with manufacturers in Italy and Europe. Their very last chair and footstool comes from the idea of having cushions in constant motion that look like they have been stacked randomly on top of each other. Placing multicoloured cushions on a steel structure of chair creates the perception of depth and evokes in people an unusual playfulness. Two tubular steel rods add additional aesthetic detail as well as structural support for the birch wood legs. The Stack easy chair will be on exhibition along with other projects by Skrivo Design during the Salone del Mobile – Milan design week at the “Tutto Bene” space in Via Tortona 31.

The headline of this post can be confusing but it is no mistake. We have recently visited a design shop located in Zwaanshals 520, Rotterdam, The Netherlands, where you can actually find quite a lot of products made by Eastern European designers. & designshop is the spot for interior design, furniture, accessories and jewellery. They sell unique products by young designers and fresh brands from around the world including products from Czech Republic and Poland. You can find there for example jewelry from Klára Šípková and Tereza Pízová, glass products from Martin Žampach or furniture from Matej Chabera and Oskar Zieta.

Meet Elwin and Nynke, the owners of & designshop – shop and in-house design and interior-styling studio.

Liizo by LLEV – Czech Republic

Liizo is a “silent servant” (something like a clothes rack). Simply, it is a product which lets you hang your clothes next to your bed or elsewhere. Simple design, use of natural materials and handcrafting are significant marks of the LLEV‘s design language. The studio was founded in 2004 by two graduates from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, Eva Polachová and Marcel Mochal.

MINT Furniture – Latvia

If I have to describe MINT furniture in one sentence, I would say: sophisticated fragility, sharp clarity and minimalism all over it. As the upcoming spring collection of MINT seems light and airy with a cheerful touch of bright shades.

MINT furniture is manufactured from solid timber and high-quality veneer. The collection is made of ash from Latvia and walnut from America. The simplistic elegance of the natural colour of wood can be combined with selection of joyful coloured laminate for the surfaces.

The MINT collection includes furniture for kitchen, living room, bathroom, kid’s room, bedroom as well as individual design elements and an exclusive collection in walnut. The different items can be absorbed in MINT Furniture Collection Catalogue of 2012.

MINT is a furniture line of Latvian Rauzas Company Ltd, launched in 2009. It was first presented at the “100% DESIGN LONDON” exhibition where Blueprint magazine awarded it as the second best stand. Since then MINT furniture has been awarded as “The Best Industrial Design 2010” by Latvian Designers association and “The best furniture design in Baltics” in the exhibition “Baltic Furniture 2010”. So far in 2012 the extended collection of MINT furniture has been shown at “Stockholm Furniture Fair 2012” and on a large exposition during Design Week “Passagen 2012” in Cologne, Germany.

Latvian Design and Lifestyle Concept Store RIIJA in Riga
