Křehký Mikulov – art design festival – Czech Republic

Křehký gallery is organizing extraordinary exhibiton of art design. Connecting various galleries from European countries (Czech republic, Austria, Belgium, Germany and France), Křehký will exhibit a wide range of objects in castle Mikulov. As the result of cooperating about eight galleries, you can see the very last works of Qubus, studio Piršč, Vessel Gallery, or new gallery Art Design Project. The Křehký Mikulov festival is open from 1^st June to 3^rd June 2012 in Czech town Mikulov, well known for vineyards and fine quality wine.

QUBUS IN BRNO – Czech Republic

Leporelo+ and a studio Qubus Design Studio is going to open an exhibition called QUBUS IN BRNO which is going to take place in an interior of Leporelo+ designshop untill June of 2012. The exhibition opening has been set on the day of first anniversary of the whole concepet (made of café, restaurant and a designstore) in Brno House of Arts April 27.

Qubus Design Studio was based in 2002 by designers Jakub Berdych and Maxim Velčovský following the idea of untypical place that offers Czech and conceptual design to customers and produces designs under its label. Qubus Design Studio has produced amounts of collections and products with its typical signature. The label has been creating also interior, architecture and graphic designs too. In cooperation with gallery of contemporery art DOX Qubus Design Studio established and opened its gallery store with complete choice of Czech design reprezentation in 2008.

Leporelo+ has been oney year old private concept opened in The Brno House of Arts at the end of 2010 by an investor Petr Klimus. It´s been running on two floors of the building. Café and design+bookshop in a gallery and fresh restaurant with a garden sitting in the basement. The Design+Bookshop sells the reprezentative and the most popular sample of Czech and foreign design product and Café has been an organizer of amounts of design and cultural events, meetings and exhibitions there.

Polish designer Boguslaw Sliwinski came up with a brilliant idea to ease feeding young children. His new collection of funny plates is very inovative attitude in a way of getting their attention while eating. However designers main idea has been to encourage kids to eat unpopular food as carrots or peas, with the Transportation plates, even an adult can bring back early memories from childhood and become a truck driver transporting carrot or salad. Sliwinski´s interactive plates are made from highest quality ceramics and method of application drawings, which guaranteed long life usage. Offered in two sizes and possible to buy on his website.

The headline of this post can be confusing but it is no mistake. We have recently visited a design shop located in Zwaanshals 520, Rotterdam, The Netherlands, where you can actually find quite a lot of products made by Eastern European designers. & designshop is the spot for interior design, furniture, accessories and jewellery. They sell unique products by young designers and fresh brands from around the world including products from Czech Republic and Poland. You can find there for example jewelry from Klára Šípková and Tereza Pízová, glass products from Martin Žampach or furniture from Matej Chabera and Oskar Zieta.

Design Centrum Kielce – Milan 2012 Preview

Design Centrum Kielce will present Artetura Collection at Ventura Lambrate, Milan 2012. The Creative Team of Design Centrum Kielce, Poland presents a new collection “Artetura”.

The project is a collaboration between the Design Centrum Kielce and ceramic industry Cersanit, producer of sanitary ceramics and tiles. The project’s aim is to create a new line of products, using existing tiles from industrial production. Flat ceramic tiles usually serve as elements for architectural exteriors, interiors, and ﬂoors. By designing 3 dimensional objects, the project offers a wider utilization of the product line and diversiﬁes the potential of the industry.

Kopia Modular Tableware – Hungary

István Böjte is a very promising young Hungarian talent on the European design scene. He was born in Marosvásárhely/Targu Mures in 1986 and now studying product design in Italy, at Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti di Milano (NABA). Although this is the first article on DESIGNEAST.EU dedicated to him, I’m sure he’s going to be a frequent guest on the webpage.

His recent project, ‘Kopia‘ is a modular tableware collection made out of porcelain and cork. Kopia was based on an 18th century Hungarian object used in cemeteries, called ‘kopjafa‘, which is a wooden, ritual obelisk made as a sort of tomb. Instead of the regular tomb stone with carvings, kopjafa was indicating the dead person’s sex, age, occupation and character simply in it’s forms and motives.

Kopia consists out of different symbol-parts that are interchangeable and therefore the user is able to create his/her own combination. The main purpose was to reproduce the building ritual of the Kopjafa through the simplified action of composition and to promote the fine Hungarian porcelain handicraft tradition.

Mikser Festival – International Design Competition in Belgrade

The cultural organisation Mikser, which is a multidisciplinary, multicultural platform that aims to affirm the cultural industry of the region and takes its active role in creating better business, social and political context for talented individuals and progressive businesses in the Balkans, is organising traditional Mikser festival for young designers in Belgrade.

The Competition’s slogan for 2012: “GET REAL!”, helps students to find the best way in creating products for current tumultuous times. Projects will be evaluated from diverse sights, as ergonomics, environmetality and also production costs. It is open both for Balkan designers – Young Balkan Designers, as for people from other countries – Ghost Project, aged 35 years and younger from 15th February until 31st March 2012.

Piksla Dose by Whitefruits – Czech Republic
