AutoDesign Prague Conference: World-class Designers in Prague

AutoDesign&Styling Magazine held a Conference on Automotive Design. For the first time in history an elite group of automotive designers met in Prague. The one-day conference was held in the Balling Hall of the National Technical Library and was attended by nearly two hundred and fifty professionals from car brands, design students, journalists, and also representatives from companies that closely cooperate with car producers or create software for designers. Topics of the ten lectures dealt with the milestones of automotive design, the future of transportation, alternative power and trends in design and styling, or with models and concepts such as the Range Rover Evoque or Ford Evos.

One of the main stars of the conference was Fabio Filippini, Vice President Design and Chief Creative Officer of Pininfarina SpA. Chief to the studio that designs for Ferrari and Maserati introduced the approach to designing cars in one of the oldest and most famous Italian design brands.

There was a great response to lectures from Anne Asensio, who worked at Renault and GM and currently creates software for designers at Dassault Systèmes, or Peter Horbury, Volvo’s Vice President of Design, who in an absorbing way explained what the essence of Scandinavian design is.

Speakers at the conference also included representatives from the Czech republic that work for major global companies. One of them was Michal Jelínek, a representative of Autodesk, who as a teacher of special software for car designers and a brilliant drawer showed the latest digital tools for sketching and modelling. Another successful Czech designer at the conference was Jan Dědek, Chief Transportation Designer in the Austrian studio Design Storz, who outlined the system of automotive transportation in 2050. Visitors could also see the new Czech super motorcycle FGR Midalu. Stanislav Hanuš, its author, spoke about its design.

CKIE crowd-funding for Designers

CKIE is a crowd-funding platform for product ideas which was named after the formula, C=f(K,I,E), which holds that creativity is function of knowledge (K), imagination (I), and evaluation (E). Now we have a platform to fund our great product ideas. Since kickstarter workded well for funding some nice products too. I was frustrated after I discovered I need US bank account to try it. Now CKIE is here and provides this service anyone with paypal account. So designers go for it, if you have exciting project in your drawer and it is just there because you are not able to fund it by yourself (or for some other money reason) try the crowd.

Architonic Concept Space III by Oskar Zieta

Polish designer Oskar Zieta, well known for his experiments with materials (Plopp stools for danish company Hay), created for Architonic website special installations at IMM Cologne.

The installations called Architonic Concept Space III is made using FIDU technology from welded sheet metal sleeves, which were pressure-inflated to create 3D forms, similar to Zietas Plopp stool. Outcome is an organic structure with striking visual effects. Zieta often works with FIDU technology in his studio Zieta Prozessdesign. Architonic is the important web source of design, products, materials and designers based in Zürich, Swiss.
