The Croatian-born designer Damir Doma grew up in Germany and studied fashion design in Munich and Berlin, where he graduated in 2004. After couple of years of working for Raf Simons and Dirk Schoenberger He now works and resides in Paris.

Belgrade Design Week 2010, May 29 – June 5th from May 29th until June 5th the jubilee 5th annual Belgrade Design Week will take place, like a cherry on top of the cake!

Never before did Belgrade (Serbia) have so many events in the fields of architecture, design and creative industries! This energy oriented towards creative content undoubtedly means one thing – the five year effort by Belgrade Design Week to waken the feeling for the importance of creative industries in modern business and “modern knowledge societies”, is finally yielding higher interest and demand for new knowledge in SEE. Therefore, no matter if new offers copy us abroad or in Serbia, keep your energy for the end of May experience at BDW, because only BDW celebrates its 5th anniversary and only BDW is acknowledged as one of the best creative conferences in the world.

This year’s BDW will traditionally be composed of several interlocked program units, the most important of them being our infamous three day creative and business-educational conference, this year under the name SMART2 (June 3rd until June 5th). Book these dates because over 30 of the world’s most creative minds are coming to Belgrade to transmit their knowledge and expertise to the legendary passionate 1000 – something BDW audience. Those lectures are equal to several good semestera at university or a top MBA programe. Top global experts from the fields of design, architecture, branding and advertising will tell us how they achieved incredible success and excellence in their field of work, as well their viewpoint on current trends in these areas under the SMART2 lead topic.

Young polish designer Tomek Rygalik designed seating range called Termo resembles bath tub.

Furniture system Termo is a modular range, which can be used for public, as well as private spaces. Soft minimalist seating modules can be arranged to one, two or three unit-long bases to create very variable and compact piece of furniture.

Table designed by Robert Majkut will be taken out on auction in the prestigious auction house in Vienna – Dorotheum. Between October and November these object was presented during the exhibition “Between art & design” in Design Palais Vienna.

From the author:
The table is a symbolic piece of furniture. That is why it became the carrier of my idea. Designed, modeled and visualized entirely digitally, it started a process reverse to the civilization progress. As a digital virtual machine-cut model, it became an object of further typically craft work and processing. The hand-assembled and finished structure was crowned with a relief top whose spatial structure was used as a matrix for copies following which the carved top was promptly covered with a layer of resin to close the live process and prevent its further reproduction. Thus, a functional object became a tool and an artistic object at the same time, instrument but also a closed moment, forming its own, strong, separate meaning. It became a tool and an independent entirety. Independent but co-creating too. Existing both in the context of a manner of activity and specific relationship which occurs only in the context of mutual existence of things.

Technical description:
The structure of the finned base of the table is made of MDF board varnished black.The top of the table was digitally milled to the form of a relief, and varnished. The upper part of the relief was painted black and used as a matrix for copies.At the final stage of production, a few millimeters’ layer of epoxy resin was applied to the top to cover the whole relief and make a smooth, glossy surface of the top. The edges and sides of the top were varnished black. The table structure is monolithic and the craftsmanship techniques are of the nature of hand-made finishing.

Bike stand Meandre by mmcité has won Good Design Award 2009‘ awarded by the Chicago Athenaeum (Museum of Architecture and Design in Chicago). mmcité product came through in tough competition of world’s famous manufacturers and managed to catch attention of international jury. Meandre is adaptable soft grooves and original shape of the rubber belt. Bike stand also won the right to use the legendary logo in a circle on a brown square of Mort Goldsholl of 1950.

The competition founded by Eero Saarinen and Charles and Ray Eames has a long tradition of sixty years and the biggest names of the past and present hot industrial and graphic design can be found among the prize winners.

Russian designer Dima Loginoff (1977) is specialized in lightning design. Now he presents new concept of a Cage lamp.

In last years Dima introduced many impressive designs of lamps, especially the table ones. The Cage lamp continues in this line. Archetypal shape of a lamp is minimized only to basic construction reminiscent cage. The lamp was awarded in Design and Design International Award, Paris in 2010.

Czech Grand Design Annual Awards have their new holders. The Design Academy of the Czech Republic decided on the winners in eight categories and on 6th March 2010 awarded them during the ceremonial in Estaters Theratre, Prague.

Mikser invites all interested parties in the South East Europe to apply to the competition and participation in the exhibition GHOST PROJECT 2010: „BALKAN GHOSTS“ INDUSTRIAL DESIGN REGIONAL YEARLY REVIEW

THE COMPETITION THEME
After four years of our continuous work to revive the industrial design in Serbia, GHOST PROJECT has become the regional platform for the promotion of design.

„BALKAN GHOSTS“ is an initiative to connect Balkan designers and multiply networks of progressive activities in the region, as well as re-establishing broken connections between different cultures, various creatives, design and business, man and nature.

EXHIBITION
Chosen works will be part of a Mikser festival’s central exhibition in the Talent zone. Mikser festival is taking place in Belgrade from May 25-29, 2010, at an attractive industrial location on the bank of Danube.

FIELD OF COMPETITION
Industrial design: furniture, lighting, everyday objects, interior elements etc.

ELIGABILITY
The competition is open to individual designers in South East European countries. Each candidate can submit several designs

CRITERIA
Mikser’s jury will select the works based on the following criteria:

• Originality
• Innovation
• Functionality
• Technical and technological viability of the design. Ghost Project will showcase only the prototypes. Submitted designs should be executable in technologies available to the designer.
• Esthetics
• Environmental aspects of the product – submitted design should be eco-friendly and sustainable
• Management of resources and materials. Careful, rational use of materials and resources necessary for the production of the object will be considered an added value. The jury will particularly value the relationship of the object toward the limitations of the contemporary industrial design. Social and economic context, endangered natural resources, limited availability of the materials and technologies used on the domestic market should be treated as a design challenge and inspiration for solutions that open up new possibilities.

2. SATURDAY / APRIL 10, 2010/ JURY’S FIRST ROUND RESULTS

Results of the first round will be published on the web site www.mikser.rs

NOTE: Designs chosen in the first round of the selection process must be realized into functional prototypes based on the solutions sent.

3. SUNDAY /MAY 23, 2010/JURY’S SECOND ROUND

A meeting with the selected designers and jury’s commentary on the quality of the executed designs and their workmanship

NOTE: Selectors withhold the right to choose only the exhibits of the highest workmanship quality in the second selection round. Participants will be notified on time by e-mail about the exact place and time of the meeting.
