Czech Grand Design Annual Awards have their new holders. The Design Academy of the Czech Republic decided on the winners in eight categories and on 6th March 2010 awarded them during the ceremonial in Estaters Theratre, Prague.

The winners are:

Designer of the year: Hippos design

Fashion designer of the year: Jakub Polanka

Graphic designer of the year: Petr Babák / Laboratoř

Photographer of the year: Bára Prášilová

Shop of the year: Simple Concept Store

Producer of the year: Botas

Discovery of the year: Lucie Koldová

Public prize – Oficina

Hall of Glory – František Vízner

Grand Designer of the year – Petr Babák / Laboratoř

Mikser invites all interested parties in the South East Europe to apply to the competition and participation in the exhibition GHOST PROJECT 2010: „BALKAN GHOSTS“

THE COMPETITION THEME
After four years of our continuous work to revive the industrial design in Serbia, GHOST PROJECT has become the regional platform for the promotion of design.

„BALKAN GHOSTS“ is an initiative to connect Balkan designers and multiply networks of progressive activities in the region, as well as re-establishing broken connections between different cultures, various creatives, design and business, man and nature.

EXHIBITION
Chosen works will be part of a Mikser festival’s central exhibition in the Talent zone. Mikser festival is taking place in Belgrade from May 25-29, 2010, at an attractive industrial location on the bank of Danube.

FIELD OF COMPETITION
Industrial design: furniture, lighting, everyday objects, fixtures interior elements etc.

ELIGABILITY
The competition is open to individual designers and studios in Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Macedonia, Rumania, Slovenia, Serbia and Kosovo, Turkey. Each candidate can submit several designs.

CRITERIA
Mikser’s jury will select the works based on the following criteria:

• Original idea
• Elaborated concept
• Innovation
• Functionality
• Technical and technological viability of the design. Ghost Project will showcase only the prototypes. Submitted designs should be executable in technologies available to the designer.
• Esthetics
• Environmental aspects of the product – submitted design should be eco-friendly and sustainable
• Rational use of materials and resources will be considered an added value. The jury will particularly value the relationship of the object toward the limitations of the contemporary industrial design. Social and economic context, endangered natural resources, limitations of the materials and technologies used on the domestic market should be treated as a design challenge and inspiration for solutions that open up new possibilities.

DEADLINES

1. MONDAY/APRIL 4, 2010/ DEADLINE TO SEND THE DESIGNS
   Technical solutions and 3D visualisations of the design should be submitted in an electronic form as a PDF or JPG in web resolution (72 dpi, ~ 640×480 pixels), as well as the detailed description of the design (word document) to e-mail adress: ghostproject@mikser.rs
2. SATURDAY / APRIL 10, 2010/ JURY’S FIRST ROUND RESULTS
   Results of the first round will be published on the web site www.mikser.rs
   NOTE: Designs chosen in the first round of the selection process must be realized into functional prototypes based on the solutions sent.
3. SUNDAY /MAY 23, 2010/JURY’S SECOND ROUND
   A meeting with the selected designers and jury’s commentary on the quality of the executed designs and their workmanship
   NOTE: Selectors withold the right to choose only the exhibits of the highest workmanship quality in the second selection round. Participants will be notified on time by e-mail about the exact place and time of the meeting.

Belorussian designer Dzmitry Samal based in Paris designed concept of a bag for Louis Vuitton.

Paris fashion house is most famous for its bags. In recent years Louis Vuitton realized some experiment projects in this field, for example with architect Zaha Hadid. The last one is the concept of a Trip Structural bag by Dzmitry Samal. The prototype was realized in leather and gold. He designed also the another concept of glasses for Louis Vuitton with the same strip aesthetic.

Here it is. New Polish design. A clean simple and smart collection of lamps and a table for magazines and a couple of drinks.  Designed by two young Polish designers planning to introduce some more designs and versions soon.

Although it’s light and bright it’s strong and long lasting as thin sheet metal is such a great medium to present forms inspired by paper folds.

FUTU LABEL was created by Studio8 Design, based in London and founded by its current Art Director, Matt Willey, formerly creative director at Frost Design UK. His recent projects also includes Plastic Magazine
FUTU LUXURY was created by Albert Folch Studio, located in Barcelona, specialized in the graphic design of magazines, publications, has been recently awarded at London Design Week for the project „Disegño II“.

FROST DESIGN is an independent company of 38 providing interdisciplinary design solutions for
clients worldwide from studios in Sydney and London.

One of the latest designs from studio NAJS is a round porcelain pendant with removable felt balls. The pendant hangs either on a black textile cord or on a nylon wire and there are three (or more) optional colours of the hand-made felt balls in the set.

Students of  Institute of Art and Design (Pilsen) presented in Jannuary and February their semestral projects in Avalon Business Center. The exhibition started with a fashion show and visitors could afterwards see works from areas: industrial and product design, graphic design, fashion design, jewellery, ceramic design, illustration, multimedia, sculpture, book binding or spatial art. Some of the woks are now presented at another exhibition Crime and Punishment in the West-Bohemian Museum (Pilsen). It will be opened until 18th April.

Athens Bench Mark is an industrial design competition for the best project about new Athens bench. There will be 3 winners with money prizes and the finalist will probably see his design in mass production and be placed in the metropolitan area of the city of Athens.

Art Lebedev Studio has designed interesting concept reminding police special forces equipment for checking situation behind the doors. Fleximus camera is a flexible tube with a lens.
